Market caps: the 2,493 largest listed companies of the 27 EU countries, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway, from companiesmarketcap.com as of 9 October 2026, converted to euros at the European Central Bank's rate ($1.1186 for one euro). Smaller listings are not in the list. Head office: the coordinates Wikidata gives for the company's head office, else the head office address in GLEIF's register, placed by postcode. 1 companies whose head office could not be placed, or lies off the map (the Canaries, Madeira, overseas), are left out. A square exists where at least 30% of it is land of these countries or a company sits in it, and belongs to the country covering most of it. Squares are drawn a little taller than wide, which keeps the chart compact and stretches Europe sideways, more so in the north. The map stops at the Arctic Circle (66 degrees north): Lapland and the far north of Norway, where no company on the list has its head office, are cut off. Iceland, the Canaries, Madeira and the Azores are off the map too. People: Eurostat's latest population for each of its small regions (NUTS 3; 2019 for the United Kingdom), shared between the squares a region covers. A square is named after its largest city, or after the city its biggest company is in. Data: companiesmarketcap.com, Wikidata, GLEIF, Eurostat, GeoNames, European Central Bank.
